Confinement Dishes (II)

Mutton Soup with Ginger Juice (My rating : 9/10) . Thick ginger juice will make the stomach very warm. Good ah! (Fresh mutton (not frozen) is available at one stall only @ Jelutong wet market).

Confinement Dishes (I)

Dong Guai Soup ( My rating : 9/10) - Cooked under long hours and stewed in a small claypot (炖盅) only. Red dates alone have given enough sweetness to this soup.

Ingredients : Kampung chicken, dong guai, red dates, chinese wolfberries, dried longan.

Pig Stomach & Chicken Leg Soup ( My rating : 7/10). This one is very 'kampung' style, unlike our normal 'pepperish' pig stomach soup.     (more......)

Enjoy my macarons with 金鸡铁树酒!

Kam tong loh to receive these 4 pcs of macarons which were delivered to my doorstep. :)

They were homemade macarons from Maya Sophea (carol tan 012-4181747). Stuffed with various fillings aka choc ganache, rose scented, passionfruit cream, lychee and etc.

Compared to the BBO's version of macarons, these are less sweet and having little fruit bites stuffed within the cream fillings.  By looking at the degree of  'shatterness' after one bite, you could know roughly how crunchy or soft the macarons are.  I saw the biggest difference in the choc flavour below.

Bravo Italiana (Invited Review) Part II

Set Dinner : Pesce Misto alla Milanese (RM43.00+)
New item, only available as Set Dinner (Soup of the day + drinks (lavazza coffee / tea / ice lemon tea) + dessert of the day).
-Grilled salmon fillet and jumbo shrimp with classic Milanese sauce.

[My rating 6/10]
Again, I always believe grilled salmon in western cuisine has the risk of having strong fishy smell, if compared to Japanese cuisine.

The jumbo shrimps were pretty good though. Most of us were impressed by the mashed potato, not only the outlook was eye-catching , internally it was stuffed with melted cheese! Surprisingly good !

Set Lunch with main course of Chicken Parmigiana (RM25.00+)
The set lunch comes with Soup of the day + drinks (coffee / tea / ice lemon tea) + single scoop of ice-cream.

[My rating : Nil - as we did not have the chance to taste Chicken Parmigiana]

Pizza alla Sicilian (RM32.00+) - With beef pepperoni, chicken sausage, onion, green pepper, black olive and crushed pepper.
[My rating : 6/10] (more......)

Bravo Italiana (Invited Review) Part I

I have done a food review on this restaurant back in 2009 when it first launched its new menu. You may refer to here Bravo Italiana (New Menu) Part I and Bravo Italiana (Invited Review) Part II.

This round is for 2010. Nearly ending already! :) Let me see if there has got any surprise for us?!

Bravo Italia is a trattoria dining establishment that serves inexpensive and rustic food in a less formal dining atmosphere.

Bruschetta (RM8.80+) -Toasted bread topped with fresh diced tomato, Italian herbs, olive oil and melted cheese.

[My rating 5/10]

The serving size seemed to be larger compared to last time. This bruschetta supposed to be without cheese. The restaurant owner cum chef (Mr. Lim) has modified this to suit local taste especially for those cheese lovers. For me, I still do not know how to appreciate / buy this dish, like last time.

Grilled Chicken Salad (RM17.00+) - Strips grilled marinated chicken, topped on fresh mixed salad.
[My rating 5/10]

This is ideal for someone who is on diet or prefers to order a salad dish as main course. I would consider ordering this dish if the price was lower, say RM12.00?!  :)

Baked Oyster Vesuvio (RM31.80+ for half dozen)  - Half shell oyster topped with mushroom, cream and melted Mozzarella cheese.

[My rating 6.5/10] (more......)

六哩香吧生肉骨茶

哩香吧生肉骨茶 (Liu Li Xiang Bak Kut Teh)
Compared to the rest of Dry Bak Kut Teh that I have tried before, I found that this one lacks of kong pou flavour, rather sweet instead.
Yam rice - of course it could not any better than those authentic Yam Rice version @ Chai Leng Park.

Pappa Rich Curry Laksa so lemak one ah?

Last week I went to Pappa Rich for two days consecutively. My rating for the food is : 80% beh khi.

Now only I realized I should have appreciated more on Apex @ Queensbay area. :)

Pappa Energy Detox Tea with Honey (RM5.90+) , Teh C Hot (RM2.80+)

It's basically like ceylon tea + honey. I do not know what is the DETOX about? For me, it tasted pretty weird and bitter at the first sip. I wonder where did the honey taste go?
The Teh C was milder than Old Town one.

Pappa Curry Laksa Special with Foo Chok (RM9.90+), Pappa Curry Laksa (RM8.90+)

TOOOOOOOOOOOO lemak liao! Really like eating / drinking curry. This was stated at the first page of the menu therefore I thought it must be something like their signature dish uh?! Oh no......I swear I'll never order this again, even if it's given FOC.

Salsas Restaurant Set Dinner RM32.00++

The last round of set dinner I had at Salsas was back in 2007 .

After having an unpleasant dining experience in The Mansion 32, I decided to give this a try last Wednesday. I noticed that the set dinner menu did not change much since 2007. It is basically the same as last time.
Nah, the only difference I could notice was this. The cloth wrapping the bread! Haha!

El Mondo *Pizza El Mondo*

It's been ages since I last stepped into El Mondo (Krystal Point). Last week I went to the branch @ E-Gate instead.

Fish Cordon Blue (RM21.90+)
Fish fillet stuffed with chicken ham and cheese coated with homemade breadcrumb, served with mushroom cream sauce, sauteed vegetables and french fries.

There was inconsistency in the spread of salt on the breadcrumb. Some parts tasted very salty whereas some other parts were not.

Pizza El Mondo (RM28.90+).(more......)

Homecook Fried Yellow Noodles (white version)

I didn't get to capture the most successful attempt because that's the moment that I couldn't wait any longer, ate all up in no time! :)

Ingredients :  yellow noodles, vege (cheng choy or siew pak choy), sam chan bak, prawns, fishballs and squids.

My cooking sequence : sam chan bak, squids, prawns, fish balls, vege, yellow noodles.  Simmer the yellow noodles under low heat so that they turn slight plump. [Yellow noodles need not be rinsed under water for too long, just a pass or two will do, that will maintain the saltiness, later no need to put much salt/soya sauce]

Oh no...I couldn't see the gravy in these few shots leh.
Greedy hor? Put so many ingredients!

Ya, here it is! I like my fried mee to be moist!(more......)

Homecook Simple Dishes 茄豆汁蛋,黑酱油鸡,炒羊角豆,炒番薯叶。

Some simple dishes to prepare whenever I am lazy or running out of time. 没啥难度的!

Fried eggs with tomato-sauced baked beans.  I do not like my eggs to be 100% cooked. I like the egg yolks to be partially solid,so that the half-cooked egg yolk can ooze out when I poke at it. :)
I added extra tomato sauce to thicken the flavour. I also added prawns so that got more ingredients to eat.
Chicken seasoned with dark soya sauce (thick) and light soya sauce.

Soon Long (顺龙茶室)Yam Rice

I do not know why Soon Long is getting more customers than the unit beside it. Whenever I go there during weekends, the crowd is can be seen very obvious at Soon Long, almost full house all the time BUT not its neighbour. Can somebody tell me? :)
What I like the most of this stall is I NEED NOT ASK FOR TOPPING UP THE SOUP. :)  They are very alert, always ready to top upfor you when you are halfway eating.
I like its yam rice for being fragrant with big chunks of yam.

Hai Onn Restaurant(海安饭店) II

This round I managed to order all the dishes that I think which are value-for-money yet delicious, unlike previous visit.

The day I went fell on the last few days of Nine Emperor Gods festival (九皇爷), therefore the customers coming for lunch were not many. Hmm.....next time got to consider this sort of period to visit Hai Onn! :)
The serving size of dishes served here although small,  ngam ngor hao mei!

Sambal fried kangkung - This round we were served 5 pcs of prawns with 'countable' stalks of eng chai. Ha!  妹仔大過主人婆hor?! :)

Chicken Chop. I believe this one is A LOT BETTER than the pork chop loh.

Hainanese Fish Curry. Need not elaborate further, a must order! :)

Clarke Street Koay Theow Thng

I managed to have a bowl of koay theow thng here before it is closed for Nine Emperor Gods festival (九皇爷).
Nowadays I no longer can tolerate eating those 'regular' size of hawker food. :(  I will either go for Medium/Large or 'kae liao' (add ingredients) size.

This one is 'Add Ingredients' size (pig blood)  (RM4.00)
