Carpenter Street's Sarawak Laksa & Kolok Mee

Carpenter Street, the so-called 1-stop authentic Sarawak food has finally set up at Bayan Baru, beside AmBank, same row as KFC, very near to Old Town Kopitiam.

I was very excited to know the news , quickly go and try the next day.
Here's my findings based on the first week of opening. Mind you, it could be biased to you all since I scrutinized it.  It could've been improved by now. Please visit and comment the latest findings. Would you please?!

Sarawak Laksa (RM7.90)
My saliva kept oozing up when this bowl of laksa was served in front of me. Ooh.....everything looked almost similar !

I couldn't smell the fragrance of the laksa rempah at all when the dish was first served to me until I finished eating it.  The laksa rempah used should be the culprit! I also believed the limau chilli paste was a bit out from original. In general, lacking of belacan taste! It would be better if it's less oily.

The Sarawak laksa is using noodles which are actually like our bee hoon.

Hutton Lane Evergreen Cafe's Koay Theow Thng

Koay Theow Thng @ Evergreen Cafe, Hutton Lane

There are a lot of Koay Theow Thng stalls stretching from Carnavon Street to Transfer Road. This is the one with duck blood served which I go for when the Ah Hor one is not open or too many customers(!).  This is one of those few kopitiams that is clean and comfortable to enjoy a bowl of koay theow thng, somemore it's served fast.

The below one is priced at RM4.00, large bowl with additional duck meat.

Ingredients are : chicken meat, duck meat, fish balls, meat balls and innards.

Valentine Meal of Chicago Rib House

For 2 @ RM69.90 per person.

Starter (Choose one)

Oriental Salad - Fresh chopped Asian greens tossed in sesame and ginger dressing with diced red peppers, coriander, fried wonton noodles and sesame seeds.

Fried Mushrooms - Fresh mushrooms fried crispy and served with Honey Mustard dressing for dipping.
I love this starter as it's not as oily ('fried') as I presumed, the mustard cream was special and indeed marvelous to go with this fried mushrooms. I couldn't have enough of them!

Soup of the Day
Also very special,  cream of potatoes with lots of soft potato chunks in it.

CNY Set Lunch of Five Stars

I have had several CNY meals or dinners for the past few weeks, even held a homecooked meal for lunch treating friends at home! BUT unfortunately for all those events, I was unable to free my hands holding camera to snap those dishes photos, let alone eating in peace. :)  What a waste!

Finally when we had a small CNY gathering at Restoran Five Stars (五星冷气餐厅), there went the first time I got the chance to grab my camera, shooting in bullet speed. :)

We chose its New Year package for 8-10 persons (RM238) which includes rice, tea and wet napkins.

Crab Meat Shark Fin Soup (this alone costs RM35). I believe this dish is considered cheap. In fact, the portion is big enough to go for 2nd round.

Claypot Seafood  (more......)
